Kährs pale tones take centre stage
Kährs pale tones take centre stage for autumn/winter 2011
Year-on-year, oak wood flooring is a constant in both the traditional and contemporary home - as are historic dark stains, which bring rich, ruddy brown tones or emanate an almost dark, tropical look. But, for this autumn and winter, the real change is a growing interest in paler stained oaks. In response, Kährs has introduced a range of eco-friendly oil and lacquer prefinishes throughout its Linnea and Original ranges.
"Contemporary grey hues and white washes are being keenly sought by both designers and consumers, on both traditional one-strip boards and patterned wood floors. At Kährs, weve responded with our new Coastal, Artisan and Supreme Ranges, which provide natural oil and matt lacquer finishes in a variety of striking pale tones, including pearly white, oyster, slate and silver hues. New stained finishes have also been introduced to our existing ranges, like Classic Nouveau Snow and Linnea Cloud, alongside darker tones and natural finishes.- commented Stina Andersson, Kährs Designer.
To reinforce the distinct new look, a variety of difference surface treatments including handscraping, white washing and brushing are used in combination with the new on-trend stains. To complement, tactile fabrics, wall coverings and natural materials add further texture - either reflecting the pale colour pallet or providing a strong contrast.
Based on Kährs award-winning original parquet design, all floors feature a multi-layered construction, which is both eco-friendly and provides enhanced stability. They can be installed on most dry, level surfaces and are suitable for installation over underfloor heating; Kährs glueless Woodloc® joint enables fast, precise installation and eliminates gapping throughout the lifetime of the floor. Meanwhile, all surface treatments are solvent and formaldehyde free and provide a durable, easy care surface.
Kährs gets artistic with new Artisan Collection
Kährs has introduced its new, exclusive Artisan Collection of wood floors. Crafted from rustic grade Oak, the Collection includes ten one-strip wooden floors which each have an individual, hand-crafted surface finish. The timbers gnarled and knotty character is further enhanced by a spectrum of natural oil prefinishes, which span deep ebony to blue-tinged white, each providing durability and easy care. All floors feature Kährs glueless Woodloc® joint, for a fast, strong installation without gapping, and are offered with a 30-year guarantee.
Featuring a wide plank design, all Artisan floors measure 1900mm x 190mm x 15mm and can be resanded 2-3 times. Bespoke finishes include smoking, brushing, stain washing, carbonizing and low sawing which creates a ripple effect. Options include Oak Old Olive, Ripple, Tan, Earth, Oyster, Slate, Saw, Camino, Linen and Straw.
All floors throughout the Collection feature an eco-friendly construction; they are crafted from sustainable Oak and have a multi-layered construction, which uses hardwood down to the joint only, with fast-growing timber below. The floors can be refurbished in exactly the same way as a solid floor - down to the joint - and the criss-cross build offers additional performance benefits, including 75% greater stability.
Kährs voted best wood floor for ninth time
Kährs flooring range has won the hardwood flooring category, for the ninth time, in the 2010 CFJ/CFA Flooring Industry Awards. Sponsored jointly by Contract Flooring Journal and the Contract Flooring Association, the unanimous award was given, once again, for Kährs entire range of eco-friendly, multi-layered wood flooring. Votes by CFJs flooring contractor and specifier readers were registered in a ballot earlier this year and the Award was presented at an exclusive luncheon hosted at the Churchill Museum and Cabinet War Rooms.
Offering an extensive range of wood floors, for both the domestic and contract markets, Kährs award-winning product format is based on the original parquet design - invented and patented by the company in 1941. A multi-layered construction - which uses hardwood down to the joint only, and fast-growing spruce and pine below - utilises the raw material in the most eco-friendly way, whilst also providing 75% greater stability compared to a solid product. Meanwhile, Kährs glueless Woodloc® joint enables fast, precise installation and eliminates gapping throughout the lifetime of the floor.
Kährs flooring range spans numerous wood species in various patterns and thicknesses - from 7mm to 20mm - as well as a variety of durable satin lacquer and nature oil prefinishes, in natural and stained shades, and on-trend brushed and bevelled finishes. It also provides complementary installation, maintenance and finishing products, spanning underlays and skirtings, to finishing pipe ferrules and floor-friendly spray cleaners.
Kährs launches next generation Woodloc® 5S
Following its introduction of the first glueless mechanical joint system, in 1999, Kährs has now launched its next generation Woodloc® 5S joint. Featuring an eco-friendly wood fibre composite construction, the new locking joint will promote a faster, simpler installation, whilst providing an even stronger joint across a single area. Woodloc® 5S is compatible with all Kährs wood floors equipped with the traditional Woodloc® joint and will be introduced to Kährs 15mm Original and 30mm Activity Floor ranges, from Spring 2010.
During installation of the original Woodloc® joint, a plastic wedge was used to hold the previously installed board at the correct angle, before locking the short end of the new board into place. The new Woodloc® 5S eliminates the need for this wedge; the previous board remains laid flat to the subfloor whilst the new board is positioned, with the short ends touching, and then pressed flat. All joints within a row remain unlocked until the subsequent row is installed, enabling adjustment and easy installation around door frames and radiators. Once locked into place, boards can be quickly and easily unlocked, using the Woodloc®5S key included in Kährs Installation Kit.
Whilst Kährs original Woodloc® is already the strongest mechanical joint system available, the new joint will allow up to a 75% larger area to be installed without an expansion joint. Furthermore, Woodloc® and Woodloc® 5S promote greater stability throughout all seasons and are suitable for installation with underfloor heating systems.
